Advisory and human rights work

I provide advisory services on the psychological dimensions of complex legal, political and public health efforts. Working with public policy, legal, and medical experts, I help design and implement programs addressing the needs of (1) refugees, (2) asylum seekers, (3) trauma survivors and (4) at-risk children and families.

I frequently serve as an Expert Witness for legal teams representing applicants seeking asylum in this country. Over the past five years, I have worked on dozens of asylum cases, providing affidavits and expert clinical opinion. I have specific expertise in the following:

  • gender-based violence
  • forced marriage and FGM
  • political violence

My fluency in French has enabled me to work extensively with North and West African applicants. I am a member of Physicians for Human Rights and the American Psychological Association’s Refugee Mental Health Network.

For the past decade, I have served as the Consulting Clinical Psychologist at Sanctuary for Families, New York State’s largest service provider to survivors of gender-based violence.  As the consulting psychologist, I train and supervise staff to meet the psychological needs of Sanctuary’s clients.
